If credit cards are what got you here in the first place, we have some very important pieces of information you should not be without. Unfortunately, no one ever really teaches us how to deal with credit the mature and responsible way. There isn't a class in high school that teaches you how to avert destroying your credit rating and ruining a lot of financial opportunities that follow. Most parents are more preoccupied with explaining the 'birds and the bees" and helping with homework than building a sound credit rating. As it were, there are some things you can do to educate yourself.

First of all

The most important key to avoiding debt in the future is reading the fine print. Read everything you come across. If you receive a statement, read it from top to bottom and left to right. If you receive an offer, be sure you understand all of the benefits, rewards, and policies. Many times, the fine print is what catches people off-guard. People are often surprised by introductory interest rates and things of that sort. Learn to read everything that comes in the mail before putting your John Hancock on anything.

Second of all

This is a very important decision you are making. Nowadays, people downplay the severity and importance of a credit because they have become commonplace, but the truth is, applying for a credit card is a huge deal. Make sure you shop around for the best offer. Don't you look for deals at the mall and at the market? Same rules apply. Always make an effort to find the best deals for you and yours.

Stick with these two very important tips and the rest is a piece of cake.
